Scotland's Rig Yards
Nigg 1974 Shift Change.
The welding school is the building with a roof like saw teeth. I spent 7 1/2 weeks there in January 1974. I think my teacher was called Rob Shepperd from Cromarty. The other was called Willie Mackintosh an ex wool classer.
We never saw daylight except at midday. The Tea Lady saved all the cold bacon left over for me in a wee paper bag so I didn't need to pay for my supper. I always bought one bottle of beer to go with it and slept in the back of my station wagon. People thought I was sleeping rough but it was warm with a mattress and a couple of sleeping bags. I drank the second half of the beer before clocking in. in the morning.
I stayed only one night in the Highland queen. The bunks were the right size for dwarfs, there was a horrible noise all the time and not much air.
