Conoco TLP

The Conoco TLP was the first Tension Leg Platform built. In the early 1980s the 20,000 ton hull was built in the graving dock at Nigg, and the 25,000 ton deck built on skids at Ardersier. They were mated up off Findhorn in the Moray Firth and produced oil from the Hutton field from 1984 to 2002.

Purchased by Gazprom, she was taken to Murmansk where the topsides and hull were separated: the topsides for use in the arctic Prirazlomnoe field; the hull supposedly sold to a Mexican company. However the tow from Murmansk to Mexico stopped at the Cromarty Firth, and the hull has been sitting a few miles from where it was built for a year now.
